Official:

AS Roma has signed Dutch defender Rick Karsdorp from Feyenoord for €14 million fee.

Full-back Karsdorp, 22, arrived in Rome on Tuesday for a medical and after signing his contract on Wednesday. Roma announced the signing from Feyenoord of Rick Karsdorp for a fee of 14 million euros, plus extras up to a maximum of five million euros.

Despite his young age, Rick has already shown he possesses great talent. Rick Karsdorp was one of the key players in the Feyenoord side which won a historic Eredivisie title last season and has now decided to try his luck in Italy. At just 22, he becomes Roma's second signing of the summer after the arrival of Hector Moreno from PSV Eindhoven.

Roma have secured an automatic spot in next season's Champions League and are hoping to strengthen for a fresh assault on the competition after their failure to qualify for the group stages last term.

A 22-year-old Dutchman, would bring the straightforward attacking approach Eusebio Di Francesco craves. Having spent the early part of his career as a midfielder, Karsdorp has the technique to thrive as an attacking fullback, not to mention the passing and crossing ability to spread play throughout the pitch.

Karsdorp has represented the Netherlands at every age group from Under-17 to the senior national side. He made his full debut for his country in October 2016 in a World Cup qualifier against France. The right-back’s most recent appearance came against Bulgaria in March.

Karsdorp will wear the No. 26 shirt during the forthcoming campaign with Roma.
